Hope you had fun!
10.31.07 (7:18 pm) [edit]
halloween's over and I hope you didn't miss it! We had lots of fun tonight! LOTS of kiddos and their folks out and about tonight! I think more than last year! - even my own kiddo said it was "crouded"!  ; But we had a great time!
- And the man down the street who always has an elaborate display, outdid himself yet again, - ( doesn't every nieghborhood have one?) Moving displays and a fog machine to boot!
Lots of fun! AND, they give out some of the best treats! BIG candy bars. None of ths "fun size" stuff either - I'm talkin' FULL size! -
I t was great fun to see all the other little kiddos all dressed up and the biggest smiles on their faces! Even saw one mom who dressed up as Jack Skellington's girl - Sally! It's fun t see the parets get into the fun too! We still had some candy left (yes sz we saved you some! - lol!), but I must say, Iwas pretty surprised after all the folks that were out tonight! Well - I'm pooped, and my sugar rush is startin' to wear off - so I hope everyone who did go out tonight had a mighty fine time of it! Arrrrrrrrrrrr! and that The Great Pumpkin treated them well! ;) ( ...and just think - just a mere few weeks until Thanksgiving!)

Sleepy Hollow........
10.26.07 (9:13 pm) [edit]
Some of you, like me, might be old enough to remember this Disney version, I think it used to be shown every year, back in the day.......(ok, back in MY day)......
Our hero and his heart's one true love, - Incabod Crane and Whatsherface Von Tassel...
and of course one of the badest bad-guys out there...... the headless horseman.... BWHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
......Still others might remember the more modern verson of this halloween tale - the version starring Johnny Depp..... I have this version. - although I have never watched it.
- Too scary... you ask????? DURN STRAIGHT!

..(sorry Johnny)....
...I do however, think that although mild mannered -
Mr. Incabod Crane, would be great fun at a party...... ...maybe he'd come to aunconi's halloween par-tay!
HEE - HEE! .....ok ok....there really IS a Sleepy Hollow though! ...Here's a pic of the real place.... ...It's in New York.
I've been there...well I've been past it, more like. - If you've ever been by there, you know that you could literally blink your eyes and actually miss it as you drove by! - The house in the distance in the pic, is the Von Tassels Home. - For reals! So, happy halloween all....and remember to keep your wits about you, .....and mind your head!

To do list/ picking out a halloween costume for auntconi's par-tay...
10.25.07 (8:58 am) [edit]
Well, my hubby's Uncle has not shown up yet, so I thought I'd jump on here for a minute. I got most of my to do list of things needed to be done before he got here, last night. I have a cold though, so I had to bail out early, and leave a few things for today. lets see...
I've gotten Uncle's bed made and the bathroom he will be using cleaned...everything it in order for the rooms he will be using.... Still have to do: *laundry - always an ongoing thing, but a must for socks and towels today! *fold and put away all laundry that is already done *clean fish tank - fishy will apprieciate it! *clean off dining room table of halloween decorating stuffs - will need the table for meals (it's a hot-spot for catch-alls!) Guess those are the main things.... OH! - and pick out a costume for auntconi's rockin' halloween par-tay!
From what I could find so far, here's what I think I'm going to choose for my costume:

10.24.07 (11:21 am) [edit]
Well, not sure how often I'll be able to get on here in the next three weeks...hoping it won't be an issue at all.... My hubby's Uncle is coming to stay with us for three weeks, and he arrives tomorrow. He is a wonderful house guest, and it's always nice to have him here - but - we do share the computer when he visits, so I'm not sure how often I'll be on-line. So - If I miss ya, I'm sorry about that - I will try to get back to you a.s.a.p.! Hang in there everyone, and have a great October! (hoping I can get to auntconi's par-tay here on Saturday!)

Ok, I've tried - and I'm SURE there is a simple solution, and it's just my blonde roots showing themselves again, - but every time I post something and try to seperate it into pharagraphs, or sections,-(like with lyrics of a song), it all runs together! I even changed my template cause I thought that would make the difference! - BUT NO! - And I asked Ink and she said to hit the enter and shift keys at the same time, but still - no-go! Guess I need to go check out her posting tips again...

You know you grew up in the 1980s when....
-You know what "Sike" means.
-You know the profound meaning of "Wax on, Wax off."
-You know that another name for a keyboard is a "Synthesizer."
-You can sing the McDonald's Big Mack,Filet-o-fish, quarter pounder, and French fry song.
-You know who Mr. T is.
-You know who Fat Albert is. And who was old boy with the pink mask?
-You ever wore fluorescent, neon clothing.
-You could breakdance, or wish you could.
-You wanted to be The Hulk for Halloween.
-You Believed that "By the power of Greyskull, you HAD the power.
-Partying "like it's 1999" seemed SO far away.
-You thought that Transformers were "more than meets the eye"
-You knew that knowing is half the battle.
-You wanted to be on Star Search.
-You wore a banana clip at some point during your youth.
-You remember the garbage pail kids, and owned some.
-You knew what Willis was "talkin' 'bout."
-You HAD to have your MTV.
-You actually thought "Dirty Dancing" was a REALLY good movie.
-You remember when ATARI was a state of the art video game.
-You were led to believe that in the year 2000 we'd all be living in space.
-You know what leg warmers are and probably had a pair.
-You wore biker shorts underneath a short skirt and felt stylish.
-You wore your Izod shirt with the collar up.
-You had a Swatch Watch with the Swatch Guard.
-Your Legos collection started with the free sets in a Happy Meal.
-You remember when Happy Meals came in a box, not a paper bag.
-You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
-You had Wonder Woman or Superman underoos.
-You know what a "Push Up" ice cream is.
-You had to come in the house when the street lights came on.
-You had to change into play clothes after school.
-You owned, or knew somebody with a Commodore 64.
-You hated Scrappy Doo.
-You recorded songs off the radio with your boom box.
-You wished you had a light saber.
-Somehow you still know all the words to songs played on VH1's "Big 80s"
-Your arm was full of rubber bracelets.
-You have ever said, "Gag me with a spoon."
-You have ever wondered what happened to Saturday morning cartoons.
-You had to get up to change the channel, or had one of those noisey "clicky boxes".
-You can still sing 1 to 12 from the Pinball machine song on Sesame Street.
-You thought the Thriller video was pretty cool.
-You remember the first time you went in to a video store to rent a movie.
-Canadians watched...Romper-Room, Mr. Dress-up, and the Friendly Giant - remember the teeny weeny furniture you wished you had?!
-You wore those wide, colorfull shoelaces.
-Quiet Riot's "Come on feel the noise" was the best song - ever.
-You know where "I want my two dollars" came from.
-You still cannot go in to the water because of that damn movie Jaws.
-El Debarge's "Get a beat to the Rhythm of the night" plagued the radio every hour.
-You remember life before minivans and SUVs.
-Cars...Gremlins were cool - Pacers were not!
If you can identify with at least half of this list then you, my friend, are a "Child of the 80s".

dressing up for halloween...
10.22.07 (4:46 pm) [edit]
I used to go all out, - I went to an art college, so some of the costumes were pretty amazing - you can imagine - And they always had an annual halloween bash.
One year, I went as a Lucky Strikes girl - you know, the giant box of Lucky Strikes cigaretts, with the gal inside, and you only saw her legs? - yeah - like that. I made it out of a huge cardboard box, with the Lucky Strikes logo on the front and the back, and cigaretts sticking out of the top - made with large cardboard tubes - and I, of course, wore black fishnets and heels to compleate the package - (punn intended)
- I had a blast, and so did every one else at the bash! We even hit one of the ocal clubs afterwards - too bad my compliments that night came from other folks and not my own bo - he had eyes for someone else - (whatever).....
Fast forward to now - I'm married, (no, not to, he who shall remain nameless), and have kids - we go out for Tricks or Treats, and yes, I still dress up. - (It's too much fun not to, and hey, I'm with my kiddo, so I have and excuse!)
One year I wore a beautiful dress from India that had belonged to my great Aunt, and another year I wore a renainsance period dress - a friend of mine had made it for herself, and didn't want it anymore - it was made of wool - I'm allergic to wool - yeh, bad idea. - Last year I was a Pirate, ( yeah ok, big surprise), and this year was going to do the same, but, my kiddo informed me that I couldn't be the same thing again - so this year I'm going as a Mom wearing a Pirate T-shirt - ok, not so much "all out" like other times before, but hey - the skull on it, GLOWS IN THE DARK!!!!!! Pretty nifty huh?
So, what will you, (or your kiddos, if you have any), be dressing up as this year?
Here's what my cat will be wearing

~What If~
(Nichole Nordeman - from the ~Brave~ CD)
For a friend who thinks this Jesus stuff is nuts.
(Nicole's words)....................................
What if you're right?
And he was just another nice guy
What if you're right?
What if it's true?
They say the cross will only make a fool of you
And what if it's true?
What if he takes his place in history
With all the prophets and the kings
Who taught us love and came in peace
But then the story ends
What then?
But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?
What if you jump?
And just close your eyes?
What if the arms that catch you, catch you by surprise?
What if He's more than enough?
What if it's love?
What if you dig
Way down deeper than your simple-minded friends
What if you dig?
What if you find
A thousand more unanswered questions down inside
That's all you find?
What if you pick apart the logic
And begin to poke the holes
What if the crown of thorns is no more
Than folklore that must be told and retold?
You've been running as fast as you can
You've been looking for a place you can land for so long
But what if you?re wrong?

Lyrics to the main song in Nightmare Before Christmas...
SHADOW]
Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
[SIAMESE SHADOW]
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
[PUMPKIN PATCH CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
[GHOSTS]
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween
[CREATURE UNDER THE BED]
I am the one hiding under your bed
Teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red
[MAN UNDER THE STAIRS]
I am the one hiding under your stairs
Fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair
[CORPSE CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
[VAMPIRES]
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
[MAYOR]
In this town, don't we love it now?
Everybody's waiting for the next surprise
[CORPSE CHORUS]
Round that corner, man hiding in the trash can
Something's waiting now to pounce, and how you'll...
[HARLEQUIN DEMON, WEREWOLF & MELTING MAN]
Scream! This is Halloween
Red 'n' black, slimy green
[WEREWOLF]
Aren't you scared?
[WITCHES]
Well, that's just fine
Say it once, say it twice
Take a chance and roll the dice
Ride with the moon in the dead of night
[HANGING TREE]
Everybody scream, everbody scream
[HANGED MEN]
In our town of Halloween!
[CLOWN]
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
[SECOND GHOUL]
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair
[OOGIE BOOGIE SHADOW]
I am the shadow on the moon at night
Filling your dreams to the brim with fright
[CORPSE CHORUS]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
Halloween! Halloween!
[CHILD CORPSE TRIO]
Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
[PARENT CORPSES]
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween
[CORPSE CHORUS]
In this town
[MAYOR]
Don't we love it now?
Everyone's waiting for the next surprise
[CORPSE CHORUS]
Skeleton Jack might catch you in the back
And scream like a banshee
Make you jump out of your skin
This is Halloween, everybody scream
Wont' ya please make way for a very special guy
Our man jack is King of the Pumpkin patch
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King now
[EVERYONE]
This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
[CORPSE CHILD TRIO]
In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song
[EVERYONE]
La la-la la, Halloween! Halloween! [Repeat]

The Necklace
10.08.07 (9:37 am) [edit]
- Thanks for this one Barnabus :) ........................................
The Necklace
The cheerful little girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five.
Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them, a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box.
Oh mommy please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please?"
Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and
then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's
upturned face.
"A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00.
If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for
you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself.
Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another
crisp dollar bill from Grandma."
As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and
counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace.
Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up.
She wore them everywhere, Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed.
The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath.
Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was
ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night as he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?"
"Oh yes, daddy. You know that I love you."
"Then give me your pearls."
"Oh, daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess, the
white horse from my collection, the one with the pink tail. Remember, daddy? The one you gave me. She's my very favorite."
"That's okay, Honey, daddy loves you. Good night." And he
brushed her cheek with a kiss.
About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked
again, "Do you love me?"
"Daddy, you know I love you."
"Then give me your pearls."
"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper."
"That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you."
And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.
A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting
on her bed with her legs crossed Indian style.
As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one
silent tear rolled down her cheek.
"What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?"
Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy.
And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace.
With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, daddy, this is for
you."
With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached
out with one hand to take the dime store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny.
He had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give
up the dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure. So it is, with our Heavenly Father. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures.
Isn't God good? Are you holding onto things that God wants
you to let go of? Are you holding on to harmful or unnecessary partners, relationships, habits and activities that you have come so attached to that it seems impossible to let go? Sometimes it is so hard to see what is in the other hand but do believe this one thing
God will never take away something without giving you
something better in its place.
You can do two things with this story:
A. Pass it on and let others be touched by its message;
B. Throw it away and not let it touch your heart.

Beach Trip...
10.07.07 (7:16 am) [edit]
Well - we made it! And It was WONDERFUL! - After waiting for the fog to lift - (sometime after 10am.), it was, as my kiddo said, "time to hit the road!"
We had a safe journey, and one much needed pit stop. All was clear. The weather was glorious, and the sky was blue with some beautiful white fluffy clouds. - but - as we were approching The Ocean itself, crossing over the bridge - we saw it - FOG - but how could this be?? It was crystal clear everywhere else! - What a strange site to see some of the sky-rise hotels shrouded in foggy clouds at their tops!
- We got into town and visability for driving, was fine. We found our "peeps", who we had arranged to possibly meet up with, and enjoyed their veiw from their Oceanside balcony. - we were even treated to a beach wedding - as everyone on the other balconys, and the boardwalk below, cheered and clapped when the groom finally kissed the bride! :)
( Ok, we had kidded about saying it, but there was actually one dolt who yelled out, ( and more than once too), "DON'T DO IT!" - right during the happy nuptuals! ( I think I woulda been pissed at that )) :S
....We fed the seagulls from the balcony, and then left to visit the other end of the boardwalk, where the stores and the rides were. ***GOOD NEWS - We found out that the rides are NOT closing down, and they are NOT leaving....YAY!:) ****
- We enjoyed hunting for that o-so elusive toy that my kiddo had their heart set on, and found it (yay!) - then we walked on the beach - ok my kiddo RAN - and then we stood in the surf, and enjoyed the view :) After that we walked along the fishing pier, and then hit Mommy's favorite trinket shop, before grabbing a bit to eat, and heading back home. - It was dark, and the fog has started REALLY rolling back in. Had to use my windshield wipers because of the fine mist. - After saying goodbye to the ocean, and crossing back over the bridge, the fog wasn't quite as bad, although most of the way back home, we would see some fog clouds whisping by.
All in all, a GREAT trip! - even though I'm TI-ER-D, and even after we thought the rides had all but shut down forever, and I didn't feel much like making the trip still.
I'm so glad I let my darling little kiddo talk me into going :)

Vacation - Day # 4
10.05.07 (11:07 am) [edit]
I could get used to this!
ok reality is, went grocery shopping yesterday, cleaned bathroom, except for tub, ( saved that job for today - weeee!), did a couple loads of clothes and did a load of dishes. - today - tub, ( as I mentioned), put away load of dishes and clothes - and pack ...cause maybe - maybe, "I'll be goin' down ne ocean hon" want - no, NEED a change of scenery and change of pace. I've been a bit down too, all the one year anniversaries are coming up/or have just resently passed - and not the good/fun kind either. - Hope to be able to go to the ocean for a day. Taking the kiddo - it's at least 2&1/2 hr. drive, each way. Will probably tire my self out, but it hould be fun - at least I hope so anyway...sure wish I could stay over night there but it isn't n the cards....sure hope I'm up for it! I sure could use it right about now!
yeah the reality is more like this right now...LOL!
Sure hope it works out!

I'm bound and determined to enjoy my vacation, if only in my mind! - No laundry, no "to do list" no phone calls from stupid people. ;) Just rest and relaxation!
no feeling incompetent, or ungrateful, no feeling rushed or obligated, or taken for granted. Just pure - blissful - peacefulness. .............ahhhhhhh! :)

Incompetent parent..........
10.03.07 (10:40 am) [edit]
I think not!
Ok, this morning, my kiddo stayed home from school, due to a tummy ache.
I get this call sometime around 11am. - It's the school, and it's one of those automated calls - The automated voice of the principal of the school comes on and tells me who he is, and then a lady's automated voice, ( much like the automated one from the local public library), comes on, telling me that my kid is absent today and that I need to send in a note with my child when they return to school, for them to give to their teacher..........................Ever since my kid has gone to school, and EVERY SINGLE time they have missed school, I have sent in a note - and in the last two years of my kid's schooling, THEY have meesed up, and said there were several unexcused absences............WRONG!..........THEY were at fault and I let them know it. - they did fix it, after I went into the office and told them - and all came out well...but now....the schools in this area are using a phone alert system - which for sudden school closings and the like, is great, - but this?? - this is just insulting! I'm a competent parent, and have been responsible and SHOWN IT!
- And yes, of course I am aware that there are parents who are not competent, and that sometimes kids hook school.....but I don't care - this just pisses me off! And especially after having to deal with them and their so-called "non excused absences" for the last two years!
They can take their automated calls and .........................
