If It Ain't Broke....
11.27.07 (9:35 pm)   [edit]

If It Ain’t Broke.......

The old Cherokee chief sat in his reservation hut, smoking the ceremonial

pipe, eyeing the two US government officials sent to interview him.

"Chief Two Eagles," one official began, "you have observed the white

man for many generations, you have seen his wars and his products, you

have seen all his progress, and all his problems."

The chief nodded. The official continued, "Considering recent events,

in your opinion, where has the white man gone wrong?"

The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute, and

then calmly replied. "When white man found the land, Indians were running it.

* No taxes

* No debt

* Plenty buffalo

* Plenty beaver

* Women did the work

* Medicine man free

* Indian men hunted and fished all the time.

The chief smiled, and added quietly, "White man dumb enough to think

he could improve system like that."

 Thanksgiving Prayer

We are thankful, God, this Thanksgiving Day
For all the blessings sent our way
We pray for every family large or small
We ask Thee to care for them all.

For all our loved ones far away
Dear God, keep them safe we pray
May they know they are not forgotten
On this Thanksgiving Day.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We give thanks for the miracles we receive
Forgive us for being so blind we do not see
Give us a new awareness of everything
And for the joy to our life that you bring.

Dear God, we are thankful to you
For the many things that you do
We ask for Thy guidance along our way
As we pray this Thanksgiving Day.

- The Turkey -
11.21.07 (5:04 pm)   [edit]

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The Turkey shot out of the oven
and rocketed into the air,
it knocked every plate off the table
and partly demolished a chair.

It ricocheted into a corner
and burst with a deafening
BOOM
,
then splattered all over the kitchen,
completely obscuring the room.

It stuck to the walls and the windows,
it totally coated the floor,
there was turkey attached to the ceiling,
were there'd never been turkey before.

It blanketed every appliance,
it smeared every saucer and bowl,
there wasn't a way I could stop it,
that turkey was out of control.

I scraped and I scrubbed with displeasure,
and thought with chagrin as I mopped,
that I'd never again stuff a turkey
with popcorn that hadn't been popped!

Life as a Turkey
11.20.07 (12:50 pm)   [edit]
Life as a Turkey

When I was a young turkey, new to the coop,
My big brother Mike took me out on the stoop;
Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow,
And he told me there was something that I had to know.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

His look and his tone I will always remember,
When he told me of the horrors of ... Black November;
"Come about August, now listen to me,
Each day you'll get six meals instead of just three."

"And soon you'll be thick, where once you were thin,
And you'll grow a big rubbery thing under your chin;
And then one morning, when you're warm in your bed,
In will burst the farmer's wife, and hack off your head."

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

"Then she'll pluck out your feathers so you're bald 'n pink,
And scoop out all your insides and leave ya lyin' in the sink;
And then comes the worst part," he said not bluffing,
She'll spread your cheeks and pack your rear with stuffing!"

Well, the rest of his words were too grim to repeat,
I sat on the stoop like a winged piece of meat;
I decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked,
I'd have to lay low and remain overlooked.

I began a new diet of nuts and granola,
High-roughage salads, juice and diet cola;
And as they ate pastries, chocolates and crepes,
I stayed in my room doing exercise tapes.

I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half,
And tried not to notice when the bigger birds laughed;
But 'twas I who was laughing, under my breath,
As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And sure enough when Black November rolled around,
I was the last turkey left in the entire compound!
So now I'm a pet in the farmer's wife's lap,
I haven't a worry, so I eat and I nap.

She held me today, while sewing and humming,
And smiled at me and said
"Christmas is coming ...

11.08.07 (11:19 am)   [edit]

 Well.....last month, both a young man of 17, whom I knew through friends and their children knowing him, and telling me about him being in an accident - lost his life....then our elderly neighbor lost his battle with lukemia......now it's my step-son's Great Grandmother. - You hear "that it comes in threes"   guess that's true. I'm going tonight to the "viewing" and tomorrow to the funeral service.

Those who already know me, know that I have previously lost an Aunt, and so has my husband, as well as our neighbor's daughter, and my sis-in-law's best friend - and all around this time of the year.....

Say goodbye to daylight-saving time this weekend. (Nov. 4th 2007 )

    & nbsp;

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The days are growing shorter...
The leaves are falling too...
The sun sinks early in the sky...
Until it is no longer, blue...

The clock is quickly ticking...
It is that time of year...
When we need to be reminded...
The time to turn our clocks is here...

We move an hour of daylight…
To the morning from the night…
If you forget to do it…
It could be a terrible fright…

Turn them back, not forward...
And if you do it right...
You will be able to enjoy...
An extra hour of sleep tonight...

As I Walk Through Life...
11.02.07 (1:42 pm)   [edit]

As I Walk Though Life

I've learned - that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is be someone who can be loved. The rest is up to them

I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people just don't care back.

I've learned that it takes years to build up trust and only seconds to destroy it.

I've learned that it's not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts.

I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better know something.

I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to the best others can do. but to the best you can do.

I've learned that it's not what happens to people that's important. It's what they do about it.

I've learned that you can do something in an instant that will give you heart ache for life.

I've learned that no matter how thin you slice it, there are always two sides.

I've Learned that it's taking me a long time to become the person I want to be.

I've learned that it's a lot easier to react than it is to think.

I've learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I've learned that you can keep going long after you think you can't.

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.

I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.

I've learned that heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I've learned that learning to forgive takes practice.

I've learned that there are people who love you dearly, but just don't know how to show it.

I've learned that money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I've learned that my best friend and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time. I've learned that sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down will be the ones to help you get back up.

I've learned that sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I've learned that true friendship continues grow even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.

I've learned that just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.

I've learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I've learned that you should never tell a child that their dreams are unlikely or outlandish. Few things are more humiliating, and what a tragedy it would if they believed it.

I've learned that your family won't always be there for you. It may seem funny, but people you aren't related to can take care of you and love you and teach you to trust people again. Families aren't biological.

I've learned that no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I've learned that it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I've learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I've learned that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

I've learned that sometimes when my friends fight, I'm forced to choose sides even when I don't want to.

I've learned that just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.

I've learned that sometimes you have to put the individual ahead of their actions.

I've learned that we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.

I've learned that you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.

I've learned that two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.

I've learned that no matter how you try to protect your children, they will eventually get hurt and you will hurt in the process.

I've learned that there are many ways of falling and staying in love.

I've learned that no matter the consequences, those who are honest with themselves get farther in life.

I've learned that no matter how many friends you have, if you are their pillar you will feel lonely and lost at the times you need them most.

I've learned that your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.

I've learned that even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find strength to help.

I've learned that writing, as well as talking, can ease emotional pains.

I've learned that the paradigm we live in is not all that is offered to us.

I've learned that credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon.

I've learned that although the word "love" can have many different meanings, it loses value when overly used.

I've learned that it's hard to determine where to draw the line between being nice and not hurting people's feelings and standing up for what you believe.

He stopped loving her today -
11.01.07 (6:55 am)   [edit]

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

(Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

(Repeat Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

This song sung by George Jones, and written by R. V. Braddock and C. Putman, Jr.
- I dedicate it to our dear nieghbor Bill, who was diagnosed woth lukemia and a couple weeks ago, was given three to six months to live - he got his wings this past Saturday.
