...To borrow SZ word.... I just heard from my Mom, that my Dad will have to have surgery - (not sure when just yet) - He pulled a muscle or did something of the sort, to his shoulder, which has been bothering him for a couple of weeks now. It "makes a clicking noise", so he went to see a doc about it after it not seeming to get much better. - He just has to turn a certain way and it flares up again. So the doc says "surgery" and says it is a must. - Now some of you who already know me, know that my Dad had to have a triple heart by-pass about a year and a half ago - so I'm not thrilled at this news - not at all. I want him better, but the timing really sucks on this too, what with all the wedding stuff going on right now too.....of course these things never are timed just right. :(
Pirate Girl is not happy. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! .

Rattled
07.31.08 (9:29 am) [edit]
Well....four days and counting - thats how many days i've woken up with a migraine this week. Monday was the worst - having had one all day and all night. I'm compleately wiped out mentally and physically. I was doing ok with all the wedding "hoop-la" and such, ( there are other family matters going on besides the upcoming wedding, as if that weren't enough - but of course - *murphey's law*),
- but then - I agreed to have lunch with someone - BAD idea.
This person decided to get right into it ( the family crap - not the wedding plans etc.). - I thought, "oh, here we go.." - even though I knew the subject would definitely come up. I thought I could handle it, and even got my nerve up to express my views on the matter - WRONG - wrong thing to do - I guess (?) - I am so tired of not saying anything about this particular subject that this person brought up when it is brought up. It has been a definite stressor on *everyone* in the family - though this person does not seem to see it that way. Forgiveness is a part of whatis going on - and frankly, forgiveness has been a given - but to adjust to the reality of the situation does tak some time - and that time needs to be given. - As far as I am concerned it is part of the consequenses of the actions that were taken in the first place. I know not alot of this make sence, but I'm trying to be careful what I say and how I say it, as some family members are aware of my blogging and this site. - So I'm trying to say what I need to say and get it out, without actually coming out and saying it - or spelling it out, and/or naming names. Guess I just need prayer thanks for listening .

Mississippi Mud Pie!
07.22.08 (8:28 pm) [edit]
Mississippi Mud Pie! IngredientsServes 8 to 10 - All-purpose flour, for work surface
- Our Favorite Pie Crust *(See below)
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped plus 1/2 ounce shaved
- 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans, toasted
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
Directions- Preheat the oven to 375. On a lightly floured work surface, roll dough out to a 12-inch round. Fit into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Using kitchen shears, trim crust leaving a 1-inch overhang. Fold edge under then crimp with your fingers. Prick bottom all over with a fork; refrigerate 30 minutes.
- Line with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until edges are just beginning to turn golden. Remove parchment and pie weights, and return shell to oven. Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer or until golden all over. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Reduce oven temperature to 350.
- In a medium heatproof bowl, set over, not in, a pan of simmering water, melt 2 ounces of the chocolate. Brush bottom of cooled shell with chocolate and scatter pecans over.
- Using the same bowl, set over simmering water, melt butter with remaining 6 ounces of chocolate.
- Using an electric mixer on high, beat eggs, granulated sugar, corn syrup, and salt until thick and batter falls back in a ribbon when beaters are lifted from bowl, about 3 minutes. Gently fold butter-chocolate mixture into egg mixture. Pour into pie shell. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until top forms a crust and filling is just set.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, then refrigerate until well chilled.
- Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat cream with confectioners' sugar until soft peaks form. Top cooled pie with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
*Pie dough for pie crust - IngredientsMakes 1 double-crust or 2 single-crust 9- to 10-inch pies - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water
Directions- In the bowl of a food processor, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Add butter, and process until the mixture resembles coarse meal, 8 to 10 seconds.
- With machine running, add ice water in a slow, steady stream through feed tube. Pulse until dough holds together without being wet or sticky; be careful not to process more than 30 seconds. To test, squeeze a small amount together: If it is crumbly, add more ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Divide dough into two equal balls. Flatten each ball into a disc and wrap in plastic. Transfer to the refrigerator and chill at least 1 hour. Dough may be stored, frozen, up to 1 month.

Old Curse
07.20.08 (8:25 pm) [edit]
... Old Curse An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years.
The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you."
The old man says without hesitation - "I now pronounce you man and wife."

Decisions - Decisions....
07.16.08 (10:26 am) [edit]
................Well, I'm still deciding on a dress for the wedding. There are three to choose from; A straight tank top dress, that is shantoung fabric, and has a three quarter sleave jacket. The sleaves are a solid fabric. It's a chocolate brown, and has a darker brown embroiderd design on the collar and cuffs, along with a little bit of beading.
The next choice is a three peice set, with black palotso (looks like a skirt), pants, that are layered with a flowing chiffon fabric, a dusty rose shell, (top), and a jacket, that has three quarter length sleaves. the sleaves are not a solid fabric, but more see through, and is also dusty rose, with a black open check pattern, and has a bit of glitz at each corner of the black pattern.
The third choice, is also a three peice set, with a black chiffon skirt, that criss crosses, at the hem, a black, tank top shell, (top), and a chocolate brown organza top, that goes over the shell, and criss crosses across the mid section, and clasps with a black beaded clasp. It also has three quarter length sleaves, that are also a more see through fabric.
My own mother has seen them and likes the first and last choices, My one sister-in-law likes the dusty rose one, even though I was only able to decribe them over the phone to her.
The Mother of the Bride likes them all, but seems to favor the first and second choice, and just today, the Bride herself has seen them, and seems to like the first choice, but feels the second and third choices would be better because of the solid fabric for the sleaves on the first one. She seems to like the second and third choices, and seems to favor the second choice, (the dusty rose), the most.
I'm still not sure - but I do seem to be leaning towards the third choice.
I wish I could find pics of each of them on-line, to post them, but alas - they are no where to be found on-line.
I do have some time to decide before I would hit the deadline to return them, So I'm taking a little time to mull this over a little more... .

Shower...
07.13.08 (2:09 pm) [edit]
Well, plans for the shower have begun - should be nice. It will be interesting. Even though it is going to be a small wedding, (100 or less), there ill be two showers. We are all, (family members that is), going to each bring an or'derve (or however you spell that), - and everyone will bring their gift. - That way it's not too much on any one person as far as the food goes. Already some great ideas are coming together - now I need to get the list of addresses together.
When all is said and done, it should be really nice. I hope so anyway.

Dress for sucess....
07.11.08 (9:20 am) [edit]
I've had the hardest time finding a dress for this special occasion...it's been rather frustrating - and humourous....so in that vein...
Well...I think I may have found it! - the dress for me to wear to my stepson's wedding.........
TA - DA!!!!!
ok - ok. I know....shocking isn't it?

Well - I figure it's that, or one of three choice Step-mother picks.
Like this little number - thanks to Lady Tremaine herself.....
or............... I could go for Snow White's evil Step-Mother's look in this number...
Hey! - I could even bring the refreshments!

Speaking of refreshments....
I could go all-out in the most dramatic Step-mom dress that's out there, in THIS little number!....
Apple pie anyone?????

BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! !!

Getting Smarter...
07.07.08 (8:25 am) [edit]
Getting smarter ---
Getting Smarter A customer at Green's Gourmet Grocery marveled at the proprietor's quick wit and intelligence.
"Tell me, Green, what makes you so smart?"
"I wouldn't share my secret with just anyone," Green replies, lowering his voice so the other shoppers won't hear. "But since you're a good and faithful customer, I'll let you in on it. Fish heads. You eat enough of them, you'll be positively brilliant."
"You sell them here?" the customer asks.
"Only $5 each," says Green.
The customer buys three. A week later, he's back in the store complaining that the fish heads were disgusting and he isn't any smarter.
"You didn't eat enough," says Green. The customer goes home with 20 more fish heads. Two weeks later, he's back and this time he's really angry.
"Hey, Green," he says, "You're selling me fish heads for $5 apiece when I can buy the whole fish for $3. You're ripping me off!"
"You see?" says Green. "You're smarter already."
Fish heads, fish heads, roly poly fish heads! Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up - yum! .

07.01.08 (5:16 am) [edit]
Hmmm haven't posted any real updates on here in a while...let's see...having toruble sleeping as of late - well ok, more than the norm - been pretty busy too ....Kiddo is taking swimming lesons - going well so far - kinda freaks *Mom, (*Me), out though ..I keep feeling the urge to jump in and help kiddo out - and the instructor too! ;) .....still looking for a dress fo step-son's wedding....the dresses I found so far - (on sale SUCH a great price at around $60. as opposed to $300.) - I'm not sure about - but the others I'm coming across are higher - (not quite at the $300. mark, but still much higher)...still looking.......sleepless due to that, and just the whole wedding thing I guess...not that I don't want them to get married - that couldn't be further from my wishes for them!...but the whole thing of making good impressions I guess ..maybe that's what's bugging me...yeah -yeah I already know I shouldn't worry about what other's think - but there's already stuff going on - like the shower that stepson's family isn't invited to...wth??? I mean it's going to be a small wedding, so I figured there would be one shower with everyone invited....gues not....and who throws the shower for his side of the family anyway?? - they are going to be no attendants sooooo.....guess it's up to me and maybe some of his aunts(?) ....I'm sure we can pull something off....and I want them to feel loved by our side of the family too....it's just relly caught me off guard that his side of the family is not being included in the other shower....oh well ...I know I can't control what others do...but there are days I feel like throttling 'em by the neck!...arrrrr! so...I'll hit a few more stores I guess, and narrow the dress hunt down...I need to do that quickly though, cause time is running out! ......guess I'll know it when I see it - right????
