Well, it's been quite a while since I've posted an update on Captain Nemo - and thank you to everyone who has been asking about him. - Captain Nemo had been complaining for some time to his doc about having trouble breathing at times - he said his doc would only smile at him when he mentioned it. ...later on, there was a call to the peramedics one morning due to Captain Nemo being very short of breath, and having a great deal of trouble catching&nbs p;his breath - the peremedics gave him oxygen, but would not leave any, saying his level was 90 something instead of 80 something, and that he should be fine, and that insurance would not cover it unless it was in the 80s - nice - Still later, Captain Nemo wakes up another morning with pain in his lower back - Mum calls the doc - doc is not there, so she talks to the "on call" doc, who tells her to get him into the ER, because he needs to be assesed - ok - so Mum calls 911 and they come and take him to the ER - we stay all day to find out that Captian Nemo has a blood clot in his lung - yes - a blood clot in his lung - nice - (after they finally do a scan) - So....then they admit him and give Captian Nemo heprin.....the next morning his arm where he has the IV, is black - yep - black - they take out the IV in that arm and put it in the other arm as well - it too turns black - the problem? not enough platelets - someone gave him the heprin without doing a platelet count first evedently - nice - So - They stop all heprin, take out all IVs and order platelets for Captain Nemo - he needs ten units - 10! - ..... they also change what they are giving him to thin his blood for the blood clot, and give him cumidin instead - that seems to work... he is in the hospital from Thursday until Tuesday the following week. This of course postpones his last week of radiation treatments, however, on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, before he goes home, he is able to resume his raditaion treatments - Captain Nemo then gets the go ahead to go home - ( I don't think they did another scan to see if the blood clot is still there or not before he went home ) - again - nice - So Captain Nemo is now home, and we have had a nurse come to the house to talk with Mum and Captain about them coming in and helping - (it's about fah-reakin time!) - anyway - it will help Mum, when myself, and or Captain Flint, ( me bro), and/or his wife, ( SIL #2) can't be there to help.-The nurse was very nice, and very supportive and we hope, will be very helpful as well. They will be an advocate for Captain Nemo, which is good, and doesn't come all too soon for what he's been through in the last week!
- Also - Captain Nemo's bro and Nephew came up to visit - it was a really really good visit, although the whole time, (with the exception of the first day they were here), Captain Nemo was in the hospital - they all did get to visit though, and Captian Nemo remembers it all. :)
Now that Captain Nemo is home, and seemingly to be doing better as the treatments are slowly getting out of his system now, we wait for the swelling to go down, and then for Captain Nemo to have another scan to see how things went with the treatments, Prayers prayed and continue... .
